Enjoy an Atlantic City Getaway in Style
A lot of New Yorkers tend to disregard Atlantic City, in part because it can be a bit of a hassle to get there. This is fair enough, and there’s certainly enough to do in New York City that it’s not often necessary to make the trip into New Jersey. Nevertheless, Atlantic City is still a fun spot, particularly for those who enjoy the casino resorts. And getting there by way of a chartered helicopter trip makes it easier and more worthwhile. With the right plan worked out in advance, you can be down and back in a single evening, and have a lot of fun in the process.
Here’s how to do it in style.
Go early enough for the Boardwalk
One of the perks of chartering a helicopter to Atlantic City is that you may be able to arrange for it to drop you off right at a given casino. For those making the trip for gaming and related activities, there may not be any need to stray farther than that! But to really get the most out of an Atlantic City getaway, you can also schedule your trip for the afternoon and give yourself time to explore the famous Boardwalk before settling into a casino or two of your choice.
U.S. News & World Report counts said Boardwalk among the best things to do in the city, which is actually saying something when you consider that there are so many sources of luxury and entertainment surrounding it. It’s a nostalgic place, full of souvenir shops, small restaurants and carnival-style games, and all in view of the beach. But it’s also a perfect place to stretch your legs a bit in between your scenic helicopter ride and your evening indulgences.
Start the evening with dinner
Atlantic City may have a less-than-classy reputation among some, but this doesn’t entirely match the atmosphere today. There are plenty of nice places to spend your time, and a lot of them happen to be excellent restaurants — mostly placed here and there within the main casinos. We won’t point you toward a single specific place for dinner, but NJMonthly.com put together a list not long before the pandemic struck that still serves as a handy guide. Places like Council Oak Fish, and Okatshe, and restaurants by the likes of Bobby Flay and Gordon Ramsay all make for delicious stops — even for those accustomed to New York City dining.
Try your luck at the gaming tables
The first thing you notice when you walk into a live casino is usually an endless sea of slot and video poker machines. These can all be fun, but if you’re making the effort to take a helicopter trip from Manhattan, you might want to try the tables simply because they make for more of an event. Just make sure you do the necessary preparation to understand the rules and a few basic strategies that might help you out.
Return at night
To cap off a fun and stylish trip into Atlantic City, we recommend organizing your charter such that you can return at night — or even late on the second evening, if you want to make more of a weekend out of it. As noted in one of our Helicopter Tours posts recently, there’s just something magical about flying over New York City at night. There’s nothing in the world quite like it, and flying back from a fun night out — filled with a fine meal and a few drinks, and perhaps with some winnings in your pocket — is about as pleasant as it gets!
